Community Groups Denied Participent Status in Inquest in to Lucia Vega Jimenez’s Death

After Lucia Vega Jimenez died under Canadian Border Service Agency’s custody in December 2013 a petition with over 8,688 signatures called for a civilian inquiry. Community groups continue to demand an investigation and a comprehensive review of migrant detention policies. However,  a coalition of eight immigrant, refugee and Latin American community groups have now been denied participant status by the BC Coroners Service at the inquest into the Lucia’s tragic death. CKUT’s Sula Greene spoke with Karla Lottini from No One Is Illegal-Vancouver about the continued lack of migrant justice in Canada and Lucia Vega Jimenez’s tragic death.
